Calculations and answer piping
Work out totals and quotes, and say answers back to people.
Work out a number from earlier answers (a quote, a total, a score), and say people's own answers back to them as they go ("Thanks, Asha. Which room would you like?").
Add a calculation
- Add a Calculation question (in the Data group of Add question) after the questions it uses.
- Write its Formula with numbers, + − × ÷, brackets and earlier questions in braces:
{Nights} * 2500 + {Room}. Click a question's chip under the formula to add it. - Set what goes Before and After the value (₹, " / night") and how many Decimals.
People see the value update as they answer. It isn't something they type, and Mikxx works it out again when the form is sent, so the stored value can be trusted.
| A formula can use | It counts as |
|---|---|
| Number, slider, rating, scale | The answer |
| Yes / no | 1 for yes, 0 for no |
| A choice | The price of what was picked (the sum, for several picks), from the options' prices |
| An earlier calculation | Its value |
| A question not answered (or hidden) | 0 |
Dividing by zero shows no value. Formulas don't compare or branch; when the amount depends on the
option picked, give each option its price and use the choice in the formula:
{How many rooms?} * {Paint}.

Say answers back (piping)
Type an earlier question's label in braces into a question's label or help text, or into the
thank-you title or message: Thanks, {Your name}!. You can also pick from Insert an answer…
under a question's label.
People see their answer in its place; it's empty until they answer. Renaming the question later doesn't break it: Mikxx keeps track of which question it is.
Ask the agent
"Show an estimated total", "add up the scores", "use their first name in the next question": the agent adds calculations and piping for you.
Good to know
- A calculation can only use questions before it.
- Totals on forms that take payments still come from option prices, amounts to pay and the fee (see Payments); a calculation shows a number, it doesn't charge it.
- Calculations can carry conditional logic like any question.
